The curvature of the road and the shape of some of the buildings ensures these pictures retain a familiar feel but so much of the detail has changed since they were taken more than 60 years ago.

These images of Watford High Street were captured from the same vantage point by a Watford Observer photographer during the day and at night on July 24, 1962.

Cars and other vehicles can be seen driving up both sides of the road to make the left-hand turn into Market Street, while the High Street beyond that junction is closed off.

Watford Observer:

There have been major changes to both sides of the road since these pictures were taken, but it is the left side of the pictures where these are perhaps most apparent because the buildings occupied by shops such as Cawdells and Timothy Whites were demolished to make way for Charter Place which in turn was transformed into the extension for atria Watford.
