Plans to build more than 600 homes in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are among five featured proposals this month.

New homes could be on their way at four Watford locations if planning applications submitted in April are approved, while a new restaurant could open at another.

Housebuilding ranges from converting offices to building in a small back garden and a major project in the Green Belt.

Take a look at the list below:

Resubmitted plans to build 675 homes and a two-form entry primary school in 55.8-acres of land, currently used for cattle grazing, follow a previous plan for 800 homes at the same site being rejected last year.

The planning agent, Savills, admitted that the plot’s location in the Green Belt and Chiltern’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) “will bring a level of harm”, but maintains that the public benefit of providing new homes outweighed this.

The development would provide 126 one-bedroom homes, 204 two-bedroom homes, 257 three-bedroom homes and 88 four-bedroom homes.

A far smaller development is looking to squeeze into an unused area of an existing home’s back garden.

The garden at the corner of Briar Road and Bramble Close in North Watford would have part of its garden used as the site of a one-bedroom bungalow under a proposal added to Watford Borough Council's planning portal on April 17.

Watford, Lower High Street

After repeated attempts to knock down a vacant office building at 250 Lower High Street were knocked back, a proposal to maintain and convert it was submitted at the start of the month.

A change of use would see Jessa House reworked internally to fill the three floors with 10 studio apartments and three one-bedroom two-person apartments.

No parking would be provided.

The former Custom Hose and Fittings unit, in Queens Road, would be converted into two self-contained homes if a plan submitted on April 11 is green-lit.

Designs would see a one-bed flat and a two-bedroom apartment built on the ground floor of the building, with separate street-entrances.

There are already two-flats upstairs.

A planning proposal asking for approval for new signage at the former Grounded Kitchen in Watford High Street suggests Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen could open there.

The application for an illuminated shop sign includes drawings of the chain’s distinctive orange branding and logo.
