Lee: We need to turn draws into wins

Watford goalkeeper Richard Lee says draws will not be good enough to get automatic promotion.

The shot stopper was in excellent form as kept Championship leaders Bristol City at bay in the dour 0-0 stalemate at Ashton Gate last night. But after five draws in a row he accepts the Hornets will need to start winning if they want a top-two finish.

Lee said: "It is great to be ten games unbeaten but six of those have been draws. We are drawing too many games and know that's not going to be enough. We need to start winning games."

Lee felt the Hornets were the better side but also said the awful weather did not help either side.

He said: "They were horrible conditions out there with all the wind and rain but I felt we just shaded it over the match."

The goalkeeper also revealed he worked with his opposite number, Adriano Basso, when the Brazilian was on trial at Vicarage Road a few years ago. Basso proved the saviour for the Robins after he saved Darius Henderson's first-half penalty.

Lee said: "He was so springy and I learnt quite a lot from him. It's great to see him doing so well, I just wish he had an off day against us."
